Pontotcola-Walter Clay McElwain, 45, departed this life from his residence in the Pontocola Community on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Born in Flowood, Miss. on November 19, l976 to Bobby McElwain and Lorraine Rochelle McElwain, he grew up in the Pontocola area, graduated from Shannon High School in l995 and attended Itawamba Community College. He spent many years working for Precision Machine and Metal and Lauderdale-Hamilton in Shannon before joining United Parcel Service as a mechanic 4 years ago. A Baptist, Clay enjoyed working and always provided for his family. Even in his spare time, he worked in his yard, piddled and was always building something. He was masterful with his hands. Clay enjoyed watching MSU sports.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Pontocola Cemetery, where he will be interred. Bro. Jimmy Bryan will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from Noon-1:45 PM on Tuesday at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo, which is honored to be serving their friends.
Clay is survived by his wife, Jamie Lynn Smith McElwain, to whom he married in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands on Oct. 11, 2021; his parents, Bobby and Lorraine McElwain of Pontocola; his sons, Austin McElwain (Claire) of Saltillo and Dylan McElwain of Pontocola; his daughter, Jada McElwain of Tupelo and his step daughter, Cammy Roberts of Pontocola; 1 sister, Erica McElwain Hurst of Shannon and a brother, Shannon McElwain (Margie) of Shannon; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
