William Lance Greer passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Oxford-University United Methodist Church, with Reverends Chris McAlilly, Warren Black, and Wes Ingram officiating. Prior to the service, visitation and refreshments will begin at 12:30 pm.

Lance was born October 23, 1940, at the family home in Louisville to the late Henry and Thelma Greer. A graduate of Louisville High School and Mississippi State University, Lance’s career with IBM and Lockheed Martin in Mechanical Engineering took him to Georgia, California, New York, Maryland, and Virginia. In addition to traveling throughout the continental United States and Canada, he enjoyed the British Isles, Italy, Hungary, Switzerland, Peru, and Mexico. His 40 years in Virginia included service projects with the Nokesville United Methodist Church and the Nokesville Ruritans, as well as, projects supporting his daughter’s school and sports program. Retirement in Oxford included the Oxford Newcomers Club, support for O-U’s Habitat for Humanity Projects, the Oxford Food Pantry, and Empty Bowls. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, electrical projects, and gestures of kindness to neighbors. Preceded in death by his sisters, Rosemary and Peggy, 

Lance is survived by his wife, Reba, his daughter Smith, and his grandson, Greer.

  1. Lance is fine man with a great sense of humor and wit. He will be missed by anyone who knew him. The Manassas friends send their condolences.

  2. I am sad to hear of Lance passing. I worked with Lance in Manassas at IBM a Lockheed Martin. Lance was such a wonderful person inside and out. My prayers and hugs to the family.
