Mr. John O’Deady McCarthy died Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford, MS.

A service will be held in Chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, Mississippi, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 3:00 P.M. Visitation will take place prior to the service beginning at 1:30 P.M. and reception will immediately follow. A funeral service will also be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas, on Monday, March 13, 2023. Visitation at 1:00 P.M., Service at 2:00 P.M., and a reception to follow.

Mr. McCarthy was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland to the late John David McCarthy and Catherine McCarthy. John graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Following graduation, John spent over twenty-five years working for State Farm Insurance.

While in college, John was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. After retiring in Oxford, MS, John began volunteering with the Ole Miss KA chapter, acting as a mentor and friend to the KA members for fourteen years. John was a member of KA’s Court of Honors and Crimson & Gold Society, and was named KA Alumnus of the Year twice. John was also an avid Ole Miss fan and supporter.

John is predeceased by his wife of fifty-one years, Jan McCarthy and is survived by his sons Mark McCarthy and wife Danielle (Logan, Dean) and Michael McCarthy & wife Sara (Beau, Parker) of Katy, TX; in-laws Jim and Jane Haley of Bastrop, TX and Steve and Susan Bell of Houston, TX; and nieces and nephews Vanessa (Paul) Lohr of Austin, TX, Andrew (Stephanie) Haley of Houston, TX, Lauren (Kyle) Czirr of Jersey City, NJ and Caroline (Michael) Clifton of Denver, CO.
