Bernette Hooker

Wilma Bernette Coleman Hooker, age 92, passed away at her daughter’s home in Springville, Tn on Sunday, April 9, 2023. Bernette was living in Springville, TN near her daughter and was formerly a resident of Thaxton, MS. She was born July 25, 1930 to James Milton and Annie Hale Coleman. Bernette was a lifelong member of Thaxton Baptist Church, and was an active church worker, a member of the WMU. She married J.C. Hooker on November 16, 1946 and they enjoyed many happy years until his death in 1998. Bernette held several public jobs, Irvin B. Schwabe Shirt Factory, Ram Golf, Miller Golf and the Peoples Bank.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 11 to 1PM at Browning Funeral Home, in Pontotoc. The service will follow at 1:00 PM, in the chapel at Browning Funeral Home, with Rev. Jimmy Russell and Rev. Michael Wilbanks officiating. Burial will follow in Thaxton Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Pam (Greg) Stephens, of Springville, TN; a son, Tommy (Elaine) Hooker, of Hendersonville, NC; two grandchildren, Alisha (Justin) McMaster and Eric (Jamie) Stephens, both of Springville, TN; seven great-grandchildren, Alexys Stephens, Darrius Stephens, Aubry McMasters, Paxton McMasters, Carter Stephens, Greyson Stephens and Alyza McMasters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, J.C. Hooker, Jr.; a granddaughter, Amanda Carol Hooker; five sisters, Bernice Sullivan, Dena Wise, Laverne Hunter, Nadine Hollander and Doris (Dot) Brock; and two brothers, Gerald Wayne Coleman and Rayson Coleman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Thaxton Baptist Church, 10507 Hwy 336, P.O. Box 38,Thaxton, MS 38871 or to New Harmony Baptist Church, 705 Hwy 69 S, Paris, TN 38256 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
