Mr. John Russell Wilkerson, Jr., 69, died Thursday, May 18, 2023, at his home in Oxford, MS. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis, MS with Rev. Albert Wilkerson officiating.

Mr. Wilkerson was the son of the late John Russell Wilkerson and Ruth Hartsfield Wilkerson. He was born May 17, 1954, in Lafayette County, MS. Mr. Wilkerson earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Mississippi State University, before beginning his career as an iron worker. He was a retired member of the Iron Worker’s Union in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as a member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church. In his free time, Mr. Wilkerson enjoyed anytime spent outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his son, Steven Shaun Wilkerson of Memphis, TN; one sister, Dotty Wilkerson Thornton of Courtland, MS; a niece, Cammie Rone of Courtland, MS; and nephew, Christopher Andrew Thornton and his wife, Katelyn of Oxford, MS; and two great-nieces, Cammie Elizabeth Rone and Ava Creek Thornton.
