Walter J Morrison

Walter Morrison, age 84, died peacefully at NMMC in Tupelo, on Thursday, June 8, 2023. He was born January 8, 1939 to Lawrence and Lillian Morrison. His greatest joys in life were hunting, fishing, camping with his family on summer vacations and especially his grandchildren, Danielle and Christopher. He began his career as a mechanic serving in the Air National Guard working on airplanes. He worked at Miss Eaton and Belden Wire in Pontotoc and retired from Cooper Tire in Tupelo. He was a lifelong member of West Heights Baptist Church, where he was an usher and served on the Cemetery Grounds Committee.

Services will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 11, 2023 at West Heights Baptist Church, with Rev. David Hamilton officiating; burial will follow in the West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Rowell Morrison; his sons, Carl David Morrison of Pontotoc, MS and Mark Morrison of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Danielle Morrison, of Pontotoc, MS and Christopher Morrison of Starkville, MS; his sister Marie Robbins (Wylie) of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law, Alice Morrison of Pontotoc, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lillian Morrison; a daughter, Angela Morrison Sweatman; daughter-in-law, Stacey Morrison; brothers and sister-in-laws, Clinton, Marvin Morrison (Oudia and Nellie), and Gernie Morrison (Ethel).

Pallbearers will be Steve Morrison, Wendell Morrison, Ernest Galloway, Dexter Warren, Jim Hubbard and Christopher Morrison.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM, Saturday at the funeral home and from 1 to 2 PM Sunday, at West Heights Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to West Heights Baptist Church or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
