Johnny “Bug Man” Harold Lindley, 76, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. He was born February 5, 1947, to Johnny Monroe Lindley and Mary Faye Johnson Lindley. He was a member of the Booneville First Pentecostal Church where he served on various committees. Mr. Lindley loved fishing, going to car races, playing dominos, going to squirrel camp, and telling jokes. As an avid basketball fan, one would see him out cheering on the Northeast Tigers, Booneville Blue Devils, New Site Royals, and other surrounding local teams. For 56 years, Johnny was known as the “Bug Man” to many. In 1999, he began Lindley Pest Control where he owned and operated for as long as his health permitted. He served his community as the First District Election Commissioner of Prentiss County for 24 years, and was a former fireman with the Booneville Fire Department. He also loved organizing fundraisers for the Tupelo Children’s Mansion and Blue Mountain Children’s Home. His most enjoyable moments in life were, being able to love on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. On July 14, 2023, he and Mrs. Debra Lindley would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the Booneville First Pentecostal Church with Bro. Jonathan Soden and Bro. Ronnie Cartwright II officiating. Burial will follow at Cain’s Chapel Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Debra Murphy Lindley; two sons, Kevin Lindley (Vicky), and Chris Lindley (Sherry); three sisters, Linda Norton, Peggy Lindley, and Cathy Miller (Sammy); five grandchildren, Nilia Johnson, Grant Lindley (Jill), Drew Lindley (Taylor), Makayla Martin (Cade), and Cristyn Lindley; a special grandchild, Charlene Graves; four great-grandchildren, Madi Mitchell, Kashton Johnson, Burks Lindley, and Jace Monroe Martin; a special great-grandchild, Avery Graves; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Monroe Lindley and Mary Faye Johnson Lindley.

Pallbearers are H.B. Lindsey, Jeremy Davis, Roundle McVey, Kerry McVey, Kim Billingsley, Eugene Berryman, James Young, Brad Mitchell, and Kenneth Green.

Honorary Pallbearers are the Men of Booneville First Pentecostal Church and special friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Booneville First United Pentecostal Church. Also, visitation will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 6, 2023, until service time.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to Booneville First Pentecostal Church or Church of the Crossroads Booneville.

  1. Johnny has been a part of my life for 45+ years! He was always so thoughtful and kind to me and my family! I have certainly laughed at many of his jokes! A fine man and example of a life well lived! I’ll miss you Mr. Johnny!
