Donald ” Donnie” R. Standifer

December 8, 1953 – September 15, 2023

Listen to this obituary

My life and legacy began on December 8, 1953, to my parents AB and Charlene Standifer. I confessed my love and belief in Christ at a tender young age at my home church New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Using my angelic voice, I started singing at the tender age of five, at New Lebanon Baptist Church in the children's choir, with hopes of singing by my dad's side with The Spiritual QC's. I later joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Male Chorus, The Golden Wings Quartet, and The Mighty Gospel Warriors. When that music hit my bones, it’s like it took flight and had a life of its own. My favorite song to sing which many of you witnessed, and saw me get
happy on was, "Hallelujah"!
I was a 1973 graduate of Tupelo High School, where "not everyone can ride the wave!" Can you believe that I was voted best dressed? Well, it's true! I pride myself in looking good every time I walk out the door. Man,
those were the days. I played on the basketball team and was great on the baseball field as well. Upon my
graduation from high school, I went on to Itawamba Junior College in Fulton, MS where I also played on the basketball team. My professional career started out with me working at SuperSag, K.I. as a welder,
Independent Furniture, Best Foam as a blade cutter, and lastly as a frame builder at Albany Industry in
Pontotoc, MS. Being a provider was instilled in me early on, and I worked hard to provide for my family.
When I wasn't at a church program giving God the Praise, you could find me sitting back enjoying ESPN. I
didn't just love one sport, I loved all of them. If not watching sports, you might find me in the kitchen doing
what I had a passion for, cooking up a good meal. I tell you, everyone knew I could throw down in the kitchen. My garden and flowerbed were also pristine, and when I had the time you might find me fishing and hunting as well.
To my beautiful Wife of 7 years, Casandra, my angel on earth. You have given me sacrificial unconditional love and an amazing extended family. Baby, I made it! "Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the
morning." I know that you will miss my physical presence but your ability to find peace in knowing that I am no longer suffering surpasses it all. We have created forever memories that you will embrace whenever you feel blue. I will forever rest in your heart my love! Remember, that through it all, we were truly blessed!
To my children: Donna "Shea" Standifer of Pontotoc, MS, Christopher "Chris" Standifer of Jacksonville, FL,
Juan "Reynard" (Ressia) Standifer; 4 Bonus Children: La'Shay Traylor, Joey Traylor, Santez Glass, and Ahirasthe Glass: I pray that my living was not in vain. Press toward the mark! You all make me smile. Your gifts will
continue to make room for you, never dim your light and always shine bright! I pray that my encouraging
words, random acts of kindness, and gestures have inspired you along the way.

You all should have seen my welcome Calvary on September 15, 2023! All my family and friends who preceded
me in death gave me quite a royal entrance. My sister Beverly Northington, met me at the gate and had the
nerve to tell me that I am following her to heaven! She said to me with that usual smirk, & quote; you just couldn't
stand to let me take my rest alone!"e; I never would have imagined that the by and by that we had sung about
for all these years would have been this glorious. One of my parents favorite songs was, & quote;Walk Around
Heaven&, and oh if you could see us all now! My dad AB Standifer welcomed me with open arms singing,
So Glad To Be Here, Welcome Home Son!
