Nina Ruth Ward Griffin passed away on November 6, 2023 after a short illness.

Nina Griffin was born on October 21, 1924 to the late Joe and Ruth Buck Ward of Chester MS. She attended school at Chester, Wood Junior College, and Mississippi State University. She then taught school at McCool MS for one year prior to marrying Jack G Griffin in 1947. She later worked part-time as a secretary in the MSU Ag Engineering Department.

She served the Starkville community faithfully, as a Girl Scout leader, a 4-H club leader, as well as a “Pink Lady” with the Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was also a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a member of the Women at the Gate Missionary Circle. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jack, her daughter, Jane Griffin Dacey, three sisters, and a brother.

Nina Griffin is survived by her children: Jerry (Darla) Griffin of Starkville and Nancy Undieme of Nashville TN; five grandchildren: Steven Griffin, Emily (Andy) Lennington, and Amy Undieme all of Nashville TN, Jamie (Johnathan) Hall of Raleigh NC, and Whitney (Ryan) Henderson of Memphis TN; and four great-grandchildren: Kaycee, Kyler, and Josh Hall of Raleigh NC, and Natalie Henderson of Memphis TN.

The family expresses thanks for the compassionate care she received from the staff at Diversicare of Eupora and at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. Reverend George Buell and Reverend Charles Simmons will be officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.
