Mrs. Christine Smith White, 92, died Sunday, April 28, 2024, at her home in Abbeville, MS. The funeral will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Derryberry officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 A.M. Burial will follow the service in Cambridge Cemetery.

Mrs. White was born on March 29, 1932, to the late Mary Ollie Stephens and John Wesley Brewer Smith. A lifelong resident of Oxford, she was a longtime member of Bay Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. White worked as Director of Correspondence for The University of Mississippi. After her retirement, she became a member of the Ole Miss Retired Ladies Luncheon Club, where she continued many of the friendships she’d developed during her time at the university. She was a former member of the Cambridge Cemetery Board, graciously devoting her time whenever needed. Her yard and garden were always in pristine condition, as she worked diligently to maintain it, gaining great joy from the time spent outdoors. As she was raising her children, she never failed to prepare three meals a day, finding purpose and joy in cooking for her family. Above all, Mrs. White was a champion of a mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Edward Eugene White; her sister, Irene Willard; and her six brothers, J.T. Smith, J.C. Smith, James Smith, Johnny Smith, Robert Smith, and Durley Smith.

Mrs. White is survived by her daughter, Deborah Faye White Verucchi and her husband, Charlie, of Oxford, MS; three sons, John Edward White and his wife, Beth, of Coldwater, MS, Robert Wesley White and his wife, Paula, of Hernando, MS, and George Leslie White and his wife, Maribeth, of Abbeville, MS; as well as 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
