Tupelo- Mattie Clytee Barber 106, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at the Meadows in Fulton. Mattie was born on March 09, 1920 in Itawamba County, MS the fifth of 10 children born to Wiley Clifford and Willie Nichols. IN 1936 she married Cleburn “Bob” Barber who died in 2002. She grew up in the depression years on a farm where she developed an intense work ethic and kept her vegetables and rose garden and she loved her country until the end. Her husband Bob was in construction and the family lived all over the South for more than 50 years before returning to Tupelo. Mattie enjoyed shopping, cleaning her house and spending time with family and friends. Mattie was a member of Centerville Baptist Church and a devout Christian. She will be missed but we are comforted to know that she is in a much better place.

Funeral services will be held at Waters Funeral Home on Monday, April 27, 2026 @ 11:00 a. m. with Bro. David Long officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

She is survived by her son, Don W. Barber; (3) Grandchildren, Michael Barber, Rebecca Croft and John Barber; (5) great-grandchildren, Courtney Bird, Julia Bird, Katherine Barber, Spencer Croft and Nicole Croft; (2) great-grandchildren, Emmy Bird and Jackson Barber.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley Clifford and Willie Roper Nichols ; her husband, Bob Barber.

Visitation will be Monday at Waters Funeral Home from 10:30 until service time @ 11:00 a. m.
