Gene was born on September 16, 1937, in Sledge, MS to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Cullen. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an E-4 from 1956-1962. During that time, he worked with the Air Force as an instructor for missile systems in Feltwell, England. From 1962-1970 he also contributed to the testing and development of rocket engines for the Saturn rocket program that helped carry Americans to the moon- an accomplishment he took great pride in.
After his years in aerospace and military service, Gene went on to work as a water plant supervisor in Poplar Bluff, MO where he eventually retired. A man of deep faith, he dedicated his life to Christ on March 21, 1962 at the Church of Christ in East Prairie, MO. He remained a devoted member of the Church of Christ throughout his life.
Gene was known for his steady nature, strong work ethic, and love for his family. In his free time, he enjoyed following sports, especially cheering on the St. Louis Cardnels and Ole Miss. Whether watching a game or spending time with loved ones, he found joy in the simple moments and the people closest to him.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death in 2024 by his beloved soulmate and partner of 62 years, Margie Kinsolving Cullen.
