Dr. Pomp Temple “Doc” Carney, devoted husband, father, grandfather, physician, military officer, author, and servant leader, passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on April 22, 1934, in Meridian, Mississippi, Doc was the son of Ansley Powell Jr and Clarice Carney and the second of five children. He was preceded in death by his brothers, A.P. Carney III “Brick”, A.P. Carney III “Bill”, John Lack Carney, his sister, Darnell Carney Adams, and his daughter, Laurie Sanders.
Doc dedicated his life to education, service, and the care of others. He attended Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi, where he earned his medical degree. While pursuing his medical education, he also served in the Mississippi Air National Guard, demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to both his country and his profession.
His military career spanned more than two decades. Rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, he faithfully served his nation from 1954 to 1986. His dedication, leadership, and sense of duty earned the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him.
On December 18, 2005, he married the love of his life, Eva Carney. Together they shared years of companionship, faith, and family.
Throughout his career, Doc touched countless lives through his medical practice, serving patients with compassion, wisdom, and unwavering commitment. Even after facing health challenges, including Alzheimer’s and congestive heart failure, he continued to inspire others through his resilience and determination.
Beyond medicine and military service, Doc was an accomplished author who published three books, sharing his experiences, insights, and faith with readers. He was also deeply involved in his community and found great joy in mentoring others and spending time with family.
Above all else, Doc cherished his family. He leaves behind four children, Tim Carney, Dindy Lavelle, Wendy Turner, and David Carney, 16 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward his legacy of service, integrity, and love.
Dr. Carney will be remembered for his steadfast faith, generous spirit, sharp intellect, and enduring devotion to his family, patients, and country. His life was one of purpose, service, and love, and his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
His memory will forever be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
