Sue McCool Phelps

Mrs. Sue McCool Phelps, 76, died Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Pinnacle, in Oxford, MS. The funeral service will be Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Blackjack Presbyterian Church, in Batesville, MS, with Rev. Doug Sullivan-Gonzalez officiating. Visitation will be held at Waller Funeral Home on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. and prior to the service at Blackjack Presbyterian Church beginning at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Blackjack Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Sue was born on November 8, 1949, in Maben, MS, to the late Roscoe and Lillian McCool. She graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and devoted many years to educating young people as a math teacher at South Panola High School and North Delta Academy.

A faithful and devoted member of Blackjack Presbyterian Church, Sue generously shared her time and talents in service to her church family. Over the years, she served as church secretary, taught adult Sunday school classes, led Vacation Bible School, active in teaching Explorer’s Bible Study, and was elected to several terns as an Elder. Whether assisting with church activities, supporting fellow members, or quietly taking care of tasks that needed attention, Sue could always be counted on to lend a helping hand.

She shared a wonderful life of forty years with her beloved husband, Bobby. Together they enjoyed making memories with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Clay McCool. She is survived by her husband, Bobby F. Phelps; sons, Ken Phelps (Kendra) of Sardis, MS, and Lee Phelps (Sarah) of Arkabutla, MS; brothers, Jerry McCool (Shelia) of Tupelo, MS, Randy McCool (Debbie) of Eupora, MS; sister-in-law, Elaine McCool of Houston, TX; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
