Sylvia Coghlan

January 20, 1935 ~ November 15, 2021 (age 86)

HOLLY BLUFF / TUPELO – Sylvia Coghlan, 86, died peacefully from her daughter’s residence in Lee County on Monday morning, November 15, 2021.  Sylvia was born in Sharkey County, MS on January 20, 1935, the daughter of the late E.F. and Ethel Estelle Screws Coghlan.  She spent most of her life in the South Delta that she loved so well.  She lived in Nettleton from 1973-1996.  Sylvia was a longtime member of the Holly Bluff Baptist Church.  She enjoyed gardening, arrowhead hunting, playing cards and dominoes and was a pretty good “shade tree” carpenter.  Known for speaking her mind, Sylvia will be missed by her children, grandchildren, extended family and a host of friends.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Friday, November 19, 2021 at Holly Bluff Baptist Church in Holly Bluff (Sharkey Co., MS) with the family pastor, Bro. Andy May officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coghlan Family Cemetery near Spanish Fort. Visitation will be from Noon-service time Friday only at Holly Bluff Baptist Church.  Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo is honored to be serving their friends.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Floyd Lowry (Dell) of Columbus, Gail Carnathan of Tupelo, Sherry Prater of Yazoo City, MS, June Lowry of Pickwick, TN, and Kim Avery (Gavin) of Como, MS; and 5 grandsons and 4 granddaughters who loved their Grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kathryn Diane Lowry; a grandson, David Lee Edwards; the children’s dad, F.P. “Larry” Lowry; and 7 siblings.
