Dr. Landis was born February 29, 1940, in Canton, Mississippi. She graduated with a BS in Nursing from the University of Mississippi, and later earned a PhD in Nursing from the University of Texas. She was an active family nurse practitioner and educator for decades. BJ is a veteran of the U.S. Army. Colonel (Retired) BJ Landis proudly served her country in the United States Army Reserve. She was a member of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and retired earning the rank of Colonel. During her military career, BJ held numerous clinical, educational, training, administrative, and leadership positions including being the Chief Nurse of the 75th Field Hospital at Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was called to active duty during operation Desert Storm.
Above all, BJ loved the Lord with all of her heart. She was a dear Christian sister to so many people. She sought to further God’s kingdom each day by encouraging people and seeking God’s will in every situation. Each morning she would go to the Lord in prayer and read scriptures and various devotions. Several of her friends mentioned how precious that time was to her, and she refused to be disturbed during that time. She is now in that old familiar place of God’s presence, with no encumbrances or distractions. Pure love, mercy, and joy are her eternal future now. Praise God!
BJ was preceded in death by her husband (Dr EK Landis) and parents (Spencer and Mabel Jo Pettis). BJ leaves behind her sons Andy Landis of Taylor, TX, Scott Landis of Porter, TX, and Doug Landis of Baltimore, MD, along with grandchildren Jamie, Jessica, Emmett, Meredith, and Nicholas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in BJ’s name to a worthy charity of your choice.
