Mary “Midge” Tidwell Britt

September 21, 1960 ~ June 8, 2026

Mrs. Mary “Midge” Tidwell Britt, 65, passed peacefully Monday, June 8, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North MS in Oxford, MS. The funeral service will be Friday, June 12, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Buster Wilson and Bro. Greg Dykes officiating. Burial will follow in Yellow Leaf Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 12:00 P.M.

Midge was born in Birmingham, AL on September 21, 1960, to the late Robert and Maggie Loyed. She was a familiar face to many throughout the Oxford community and was well known from her years working at Littlejohn’s and as owner of Cedar Bucket. Her friendly personality, quick wit, and ability to make people laugh left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

A lifetime member of New Prospect, Midge cherished time spent with family and friends. She loved hosting holiday gatherings and family get-togethers. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch, visiting with loved ones, and finding treasures during her (very) many trips to Goodwill. Whether sharing a joke, teasing someone she cared about, Midge had a gift of bringing joy to those around her.

Above all, she was a devoted and proud grandmother. Her grandchildren knew her lovingly as “Me-Me”, and some of their favorite memories were the special nights spent at her house. She treasured every moment with them.

In addition to her parents, Midge was preceded in death by her first husband, William “Billy” Tidwell, and by her late husband, Rickey Dean Britt, Sr.; and a brother, Randal Loyed.

Midge is survived by her daughter, Tonya Whitaker (Tyler) of Oxford, MS; son, Bill Tidwell (Jeana) of Oxford, MS; sister, Renae Johnson of Water Valley, MS; brother, Skip Loyed (Charlotte) of Covington, TN; grandchildren, Hunter Tidwell, Logan Tidwell, Jace Tidwell, Abbie Rhines, Tucker Rhines, Dean Whitaker, Hallie Whitaker, Alivia Britt, Courtney Murphree, Abbie Britt. Midge is also survived by her extended family whom she loved dearly, including in-laws, Marilyn and Ed Kornacki, Libby and Keith Tidwell, Mickey and Billy Wayne Douglas; a host of nieces, and nephews and honorary grandchildren.
